Eagle Feather Sillouette Photo

Okay, I've been slacking off on this.  But I figured I owed you all at least a couple devils dozens of pictures... but you'll have to make due with this one.  I hope you like it.  It is not a dog, it's me in my mountain man outfit, sillouetted, aged and tinted photo.  Enjoy!

Baby Animal Days Photos

Riley with Day Old Lamb 2010

These are some photos I took of my niece and I at Baby Animal Days at This is the Place Monument.  A couple weeks later the barn housing all the baby animals burned to the ground.  They did not make it.

As if it wasn't enough...

Kuma, our brindle colored Akita, died from bloat at 3:12 am on Tuesday morning.  I found her at around 2 am.  She was only a year and a half old. May she rest in peace and run around Rainbow Bridge with my Baby Girl, Rikki.
This leaves Zues, our bassett/blue heeler, alone.  But he will be okay.  He gets to come inside for several hours a day, but we cant get him to stop crying and howling.  We are trying to get him to stop, but it's hard and seemingly impossible.  I will be getting the memorials finished and uploaded when I can get myself together a little more.  3 deaths in 6 weeks is alot to handle.  I will be updating this soon.  See you all later.

Rikki, Baby Girl ~May 6, 1999 - May 8, 2010 ~

My Baby Girl, Rikki, passed away on Saturday, May 8th, 2010.  She had been getting sick and losing weight and I made the decision to have her go to Heaven.  My Baby Girl was with me for 11 years.  She was 4 years old when I took her home.
I will always remember that she loved little animals, guinea pigs especially, and would care for them like her own.  She liked having them snuggle up to her and would smile so big!  She loved those guinea pigs!  (Not a big fan of rabbits or other small animals though.)
I remember when I would sleep in my room at night, sometimes when she wanted to go out, she would lay her muzzle across my neck and lick my ear and my cheek and my face!  She always made sure I knew she wanted to go out.  And she always made sure I knew she wanted to come back in!
When we first brought her home, she would sleep above my head on my pillow.  It was odd, but oddly comforting.  But I had to break her of that habit because it's a dominance thing and I had to make sure she knew I was dominant.
She lived for a long time and was there through thick and thin.  She was there to talk to when I had no one else.  She didn't care what the problem was, she would listen, then lick my face and snuggle.  She made me feel much better when I was sad.
I will miss her immensely, but when I look back, I realize she was not happy in these past years.  She had gone deaf, mostly blind, and her back legs would not work well.  She would shake like she was having seizures, had back problems and had problems keeping food down.
In the end, I couldn't be there with her, but she was held by my sister Sabrina while she was taken to Heaven.
I love you Baby Girl.  I love you with all my heart and will miss you forever.  Remember when you chased those balls and those sticks? Remember the guinea pigs you loved so much?   Remember all the good things?  I will remember those always.  But mostly I will remember you and the happiness you brought into my life and the lives of my family.  I will meet you at Rainbow Bridge someday.  But until then, stay with Grandma.  Your both new to Heaven.  She'll take care of you and you'll take care of her.  Look for Shamu as well.  She's a good dog.  :)  Love ya Baby Girl.  I'll keep you in my heart always.

Pictures and Memorials to come.  Please be patient.

Upcoming Posts and Projects

Okay, just so you know, I did not forget this blog.  It's been a very busy month and I haven't had much time to download photos and edit photos for fun stuff.  I also started school for my criminal justice degree, which surprisingly takes up alot of time.  I have two papers due by wednesday and I haven't studied the chapters yet.
Anywho, I have some projects I am working on right now, such as:

-Graveyard photos (I am halfway through editing them.  They look awesome.)
-Portraits taken up Big Cottonwood Canyon.
-ATC's I have been trying to do on Photoshop (not easy)
-I am going to scan in some drawings and such that I have done, or maybe just take photos of them, and also scan in some pictures I've scrapbooked physically.  It's fun to scrapbook physically on real paper, but then its also fun to do it on photoshop.  Getting the sizes right is hard though.
-Flower photos I took at my Grandma's funeral on April 16th.  Those will be hard.  I am going to print out all of her pictures I have and make a memorial book then I will take pictures of it and show you guys.  I'm just waiting for a time when I can do it and not cry all over the pictures and elements.

Do you guys have any requests?  Any challenges you want to do?  Pictures you want me to post here?  Just leave a comment and let me know!

Anywho, I'm going to go study, have lunch and off to do some other responbilities I have.  Yay.

Funeral Photography

People have been doing funereal photography for years.  Back in the late 19th century, early 20th century, most of the photos people had were of them after they had passed.  That is still a tradition, although not as popular as it once was.  (Morbidity plays a significant part of it's "taboo".  They think it's morbid and want no part of it.)
I took some photos at my grandmothers funeral today.  Well, a few, mostly of flowers and such, between the crying and participating in it.
What's your take on funeral photography?  Taboo or tradition?  Where do you draw the line?  I will have some flower pictures posted soon.  I am still trying to get things going with my Grandma's memorial I'm working on.  (Time and money play a part there...)
Anyway, besides the funeral pictures, we are going to be doing some engagement photos for my sister and her fiance saturday afternoon, possibly sunday.  I'm excited because I'm going to get some photos done as well!  My dad is the wonderful photographer, although I might have Bri or Mick do some as well.  (My mom will do some if she is feeling well enough to go.  :)
So, many many pictures to do.  (I am still behind on the Mt. Olivette shoot we did in January... I think it was January... hmm...)
Anyway, I will think up another challenge for you to participate in soon!  Have a good weekend and happy shooting!

My Grandma, Rileys Great Grandma

Hello.  I am going to be working on a special project over the next week for my beloved grandma who passed away at 6:50 last night.  She was a very special woman and I want to make her a tribute that shows that.  We were all there with her, so she wasn't alone.  She hadn't been alone through this whole process.  Someone was always there with her.  I will be away while completing this project, so just be informed I have not abandoned this blog.  I will see you all later.

Riley and Grandma

This is my niece and my mother, two of my favorite people.  These are the two most recent photographs I've taken and I dont get the oppurtunity to take photos of my Mom very often, let alone the two of them acting uninhibited.  I wish I could get more photos of them like this together.  Enjoy the portraits!!

Both photos I had turned into black and white photos and then faded it slightly back into color.  Makes it look heirloomed.  At least I think it does.  Have a wonderful day!!

Spring!!!

Okay, so here in Utah our spring consists of insane changes between 60 degrees and sunny to snowy and 25 degrees.  I also took the flowery photos for the challenge I presented because, honestly, there was NOTHING blooming at all when I offered it.
Anywho, here are the photos:  (Which, I really like. ^_^)

I'm sorry to inform you but I will be postponing the end of the Spring Challenge for another week or so.  We have some family stuff going on and that will be taking my time.  Thank you for your support.

Spring In Utah

Spring in Utah generally consists of snow, rain, sunshine and temperatures ranging from 20 to 45.  Sometimes within the same day.
So, because Spring will officially be here on the 21st, I want to propose a challenge:  take photos of spring.  Not much of a challenge right?  Well, what if I said it has to be something unique, different.  Not those flowery photos that most people take, but something different. View a flower from the bottom, taking the photo upwards, into the sky.  Take a picture of a leaf in a raingutter during a rainstorm.  Take a picture of people in tank tops out in the snow. Whatever.  Just make it different.
I will be doing this project myself, looking for new ways to look at things.  I hope that this project will inspire you to stop and look in unconventional directions for possible photo oppurtunities.
Anyway, you have until monday to come up with some pictures.  Feel free to post them and leave a link here to the picture.  :)  I will post my photos on Sunday evening or Monday evening.  Now, get out there and photograph!!

Mountain Man Rendezvous Part 1 (Image Heavy)

Some of my favorite things to do in the summer time are the mountian man rendezvous.  They are reenactments of the 1824-1835 rendezvous of the fur traders.  Everyone is dressed in pre-1840's garb and sell only pre-1840's goods, such as leather, beads, camping equipment, lodgings, weapons and jewelry.  They also have mountain man demonstrations, (tanning hide, making fire, games, etc.), native american dances, and many, many traders.  If you find the right traders/reenactors, you can hear some wonderful stories of past rendezvous and some histories of the rendezvous.
If it were possible, I would never leave the rendezvous.  I feel more at home at the rendezvous then I do anywhere else.  Like I was born in the wrong era, but maybe it's good because now I can get other people into the rendezvous as well and teach some history.  :)
I just like history.
Anyway, getting to the photography part of my blog, I wanted to show some of my favorite mountain men/ rendezvous photos.  These are various photos taken from many places.  I will disclose the location and year of every photo beneath the photo.
Here they are:

June 2008 - Patch Eater

June 2008 - Patch Eater Shooting Black Powder

June 2008 - Eagle Feather Checking Her Shot

June 2008 - Hatchet Maintenance

Horse Carriage Ride - Fort Bridger 2009

Soldiers at Fort Bridger - 2009

Trader at Fort Bridger - 2009

Dog Soldiers Tent - Bridger 2009
Dog Soldiers are the equivilent of security or law enforcement.  They make sure everyone is abiding by the rules of the rendezvous.  They have the right to kick out people that are not abiding by those rules.  :)  I want to be a dog soldier.

Nice Rendezvous Couple with Adorable Dog - Bridger 2009
(Most of the pictures I took the first year we went to Bridger were of dogs.  No people at all.)

Hello!

Flower on Memorial Day 2008

Hello!  My name is Rae and I am what the photography business would call an Amatuer Photographer.  I'd like to think of myself as a Professional Amatuer.  I have been doing photography since I was in middle school and I took my first photography class as a sophomore in high school.  It was fun learning on a film SLR (Olympus camera that belonged to my Dad, which I hope to acquire again soon.) and learning the process of developing film.  My favorite part was the dark room, which really shouldn't surprise anyone who knows me.

Flag Flying at This is the Place Heritage Park 2008
I have decided to create a blog in the hopes of rekindling my passion for high quality nature and animal photography, as well as the occasional graveyard/gothic shoot that my sisters and I do quite frequently.  I also wanted a place where other photographers can come a share ideas, tips and have a few tutorials along the lines of photo composition, set up, and editing.
For my first photo upload, I will share a few of my favorites: (Which dont happen to be recent either.)

Two Worlds Demons - April 2009
This photo is one of the many favorites my sister and I take in the Mt. Olivette graveyard in Salt Lake City.  It is our favorite graveyard to take pictures in, and it's a shame we haven't gotten all the photos we want yet. But we are working on it.  I have many more photos from a recent shoot that I have to edit and upload and then we will do more photos at different places.

Know of any good places to take photos?
Where are your favorite places?
What kind of photos do you like to shoot?

Also, my grandfather used to do photography, as well as my dad.  He has his own blog as well, although he is a definate Professional by business standards:  http://philmassey.blogspot.com/  So fly on over to his blog and leave a comment or two!  And hey, follow his blog because he is very talented.  He's a wonderful photographer who, well, go visit his blog and find out!
