Spring In Utah

Spring in Utah generally consists of snow, rain, sunshine and temperatures ranging from 20 to 45.  Sometimes within the same day.
So, because Spring will officially be here on the 21st, I want to propose a challenge:  take photos of spring.  Not much of a challenge right?  Well, what if I said it has to be something unique, different.  Not those flowery photos that most people take, but something different. View a flower from the bottom, taking the photo upwards, into the sky.  Take a picture of a leaf in a raingutter during a rainstorm.  Take a picture of people in tank tops out in the snow. Whatever.  Just make it different.
I will be doing this project myself, looking for new ways to look at things.  I hope that this project will inspire you to stop and look in unconventional directions for possible photo oppurtunities.
Anyway, you have until monday to come up with some pictures.  Feel free to post them and leave a link here to the picture.  :)  I will post my photos on Sunday evening or Monday evening.  Now, get out there and photograph!!

Mountain Man Rendezvous Part 1 (Image Heavy)

Some of my favorite things to do in the summer time are the mountian man rendezvous.  They are reenactments of the 1824-1835 rendezvous of the fur traders.  Everyone is dressed in pre-1840's garb and sell only pre-1840's goods, such as leather, beads, camping equipment, lodgings, weapons and jewelry.  They also have mountain man demonstrations, (tanning hide, making fire, games, etc.), native american dances, and many, many traders.  If you find the right traders/reenactors, you can hear some wonderful stories of past rendezvous and some histories of the rendezvous.
If it were possible, I would never leave the rendezvous.  I feel more at home at the rendezvous then I do anywhere else.  Like I was born in the wrong era, but maybe it's good because now I can get other people into the rendezvous as well and teach some history.  :)
I just like history.
Anyway, getting to the photography part of my blog, I wanted to show some of my favorite mountain men/ rendezvous photos.  These are various photos taken from many places.  I will disclose the location and year of every photo beneath the photo.
Here they are:

June 2008 - Patch Eater

June 2008 - Patch Eater Shooting Black Powder

June 2008 - Eagle Feather Checking Her Shot

June 2008 - Hatchet Maintenance

Horse Carriage Ride - Fort Bridger 2009

Soldiers at Fort Bridger - 2009

Trader at Fort Bridger - 2009

Dog Soldiers Tent - Bridger 2009
Dog Soldiers are the equivilent of security or law enforcement.  They make sure everyone is abiding by the rules of the rendezvous.  They have the right to kick out people that are not abiding by those rules.  :)  I want to be a dog soldier.

Nice Rendezvous Couple with Adorable Dog - Bridger 2009
(Most of the pictures I took the first year we went to Bridger were of dogs.  No people at all.)

Hello!

Flower on Memorial Day 2008

Hello!  My name is Rae and I am what the photography business would call an Amatuer Photographer.  I'd like to think of myself as a Professional Amatuer.  I have been doing photography since I was in middle school and I took my first photography class as a sophomore in high school.  It was fun learning on a film SLR (Olympus camera that belonged to my Dad, which I hope to acquire again soon.) and learning the process of developing film.  My favorite part was the dark room, which really shouldn't surprise anyone who knows me.

Flag Flying at This is the Place Heritage Park 2008
I have decided to create a blog in the hopes of rekindling my passion for high quality nature and animal photography, as well as the occasional graveyard/gothic shoot that my sisters and I do quite frequently.  I also wanted a place where other photographers can come a share ideas, tips and have a few tutorials along the lines of photo composition, set up, and editing.
For my first photo upload, I will share a few of my favorites: (Which dont happen to be recent either.)

Two Worlds Demons - April 2009
This photo is one of the many favorites my sister and I take in the Mt. Olivette graveyard in Salt Lake City.  It is our favorite graveyard to take pictures in, and it's a shame we haven't gotten all the photos we want yet. But we are working on it.  I have many more photos from a recent shoot that I have to edit and upload and then we will do more photos at different places.

Know of any good places to take photos?
Where are your favorite places?
What kind of photos do you like to shoot?

Also, my grandfather used to do photography, as well as my dad.  He has his own blog as well, although he is a definate Professional by business standards:  http://philmassey.blogspot.com/  So fly on over to his blog and leave a comment or two!  And hey, follow his blog because he is very talented.  He's a wonderful photographer who, well, go visit his blog and find out!
